Communications
As part of the San Juan Police Department, the Public Safety Dispatch Center provides a wide variety of emergency and non-emergency communications services to the citizens, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The SJPD Dispatch Center is a Primary Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) for 9-1-1 emergency services, dispatching San Juan Police Officers, Firefighter, and coordinating with the LRGVDC Regional 9-1-1 Communications Center for Fire and Ambulance response, as well as other outside agency mutual aid services. All Dispatchers are T.C.O.L.E. Certified through the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education, a statewide organization established by the legislature to set minimum selection and training standards for Texas law enforcement personnel.
The Public Safety Dispatch Center also provides call-taking and dispatching services to the San Juan Fire Department, consistently prioritizing different levels of communications. The San Juan Police Department Dispatch Center receives about 19,000 calls for service each year.
